The Photography Issue

Volume 27 Number 4 Issue No. 108

In the new issue of Border Crossings the aperture is open on Photography. An in-depth interview with Philip-Lorca diCorcia makes evident the profound effect his work has had on countless photographers working today. Representative pieces from his various bodies of work are reproduced with the interview.

The interview with photographer Raymonde April is thoughtful and reflective and shows well the intimate and autobiographical nature of her work.

The issue also features an article by noted photography critic AD Coleman on Pictorialism and its pervasive influence on contemporary photography.

Editor Meeka Walsh has written an article on the subtle and elegant photographs, and writing of Moyra Davey, about whose work filmmaker John Waters has written, “ … she will catch you off guard with her smudged, elegant, low-tech intelligence.”

There are two photo-portfolios in this issue, at once corresponding to each other and uniquely individual. One by Arnaud Maggs, the other by Meggan Gould.

The front of the magazine—the Borderviews section—introduces new work by Robert Polidori, Stan Douglas, Nicolas Baier and Sanaz Mazinani.

As always, the review section is rich and broad-ranging and includes: Sophie Calle, Ron Giii, Philip Guston, Rafael Goldchain, Attila Richard Lukacs, Caroline Dukes, Rebecca Belmore, Adrian Blackwell and more …
